Periodic Table Printmaking Project

I was very impressed with this project in total. Just the factor in the number of different artist involved is very impressive. Take a gander...

IPCNY: New Prints Autumn 2007

The newest installment of the IPCNY (International Print Center New York) is up in Chicago. I recently got to see the exhibition.

This is the press release for the Chicago show.

Columbia College and Anchor Graphics will bring the International Print Center New York's New Prints: Autumn 2007 exhibition to Chicago. This group exhibition gathers 51 of the finest prints created in the past year by 41 artists from around the world. The exhibition will be on display in Columbia College's C33 Gallery and Hokin Annex at 33 E. Congress and 623 S. Wabash respectively. A reception will be held from 5-8pm on January 31, 2008 at C33 Gallery with comments from Mark Pascale, Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings for the Art Institute of Chicago.

A wide range of printmaking mediums is represented, from the traditional to the cutting-edge. Many of the pieces push the fine art print in new and unexpected directions. Highlights include: Chuck Close’s 11 x 8 1⁄2 inch sheet of paper watermarked with his trademark self-portrait; Alex Dodge’s computer numerical controlled engraving accompanied by an executable computer virus; a larger-than-life abstract human form printed in relief from banyon tree aerial roots by Michele Oka Doner; and William Kentridge’s photogravures which when viewed through a stereopticon reveal 3D effects.

The complete list of artists includes: Eric Avery, Tom Baker, Curtis Bartone, Louisiana Bendolph, Marieke Bolhuis, Maria de la Providencia Casanovas, Chuck Close, Michele Oka Doner, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Alex Dodge, Jessica Dunne, Richard Dupont, Eduardo Fausti, Barnaby Furnas, Joscelyn Gardner, Rie Hasegawa, Art Hazelwood, Yuji Hiratsuka, Laurie Hogin, Jenny Holzer, Tom Huck, William Kentridge, Joey Kötting, Beauvais Lyons, Steve McClure, Mark Mulroney, Abe Murley, Lynn Newcomb, Sarah Nicholls, Lothar Osterburg, Liliana Porter, Andrew Stein Raftery, Ana João Romana, Roser Sales, Dasha Shishkin, Jaune Quick-to-See-Smith, Tom Spleth, Nathaniel Stern, Craig Taylor, Mary Temple, and Nicola Tyson.

The weather was dreadful the night of the opening. Plus there was another opening that I was going to attend(show that I am a part of). But I first went to the Hokin Annex to view the prints from the ICNY show. Then I trotted over to the C33 building to view the rest of the show.

Here were some of the highlights for me of the show.
